Hopkinsville Fire Department Training Center:
The local Fire Department took over the previous Hopkinsville Police department facility as HPD moved into its new headquarters on the adjacent site. Spurr Architecture was asked to renovate the 1960’s building into a full training facility consisting of multiple classrooms varying in occupant load, multiple meeting / conference rooms, overhead door for equipment training, new toilet rooms, storage rooms, offices and support spaces. During the design phase the roof was found to be in poor condition and needed to be replaced, along with the removal of existing steel jail cells that were removed prior to bidding hoping to help the bidding process. The project was subject to negations for budgetary concerns based on the bidding climate at the time, added items for HVAC and Lighting, the team/Fire Chief was able to work with the selected contractor to value engineer items to help phase the building construction to meet the needs of the client.
